Lazy
Jacks contain mainsails while reefing and dousing. They work extremely
well with full-battened mains, but are also used with conventional
sails.
Lazy Jacks are the best way to control the main sail when you lower
it. They keep your mainsail up on the boom and in control as you are
lowering your sail.
There are many Lazy Jack configurations. Some are two points, some
are three points and the idea is to keep them loose enough that the
mainsail will take proper shape while sailing and tight enough to
keep the sail in the middle.
To reduce sail chafe, minimize the movement of the block by keepping
the lazy jacks lines snug. Full
battens mainsail (with a Strong
Track System) is th eway to go if you are trying to avoid as
much work when hositing and loweirng your mainsail but if you a
standard batten mainsail (short battens) be careful not to hang
up on the jack lines.
If you are ordering a mainsail cover, remember to let us where to
place the cuts for the Lazy Jacks.
